The Regime is an HBO political satire limited series created by Will Tracy. Tracy is best known for his work as a writer and executive producer on the hit HBO show Succession. The series is directed by acclaimed filmmakers Stephen Frears (Dangerous Liaisons, Florence Foster Jenkins) and Jessica Hobbs (The Crown, Broadchurch).
The miniseries cast is led by Kate Winslet, who stars as the chancellor of a fictional European autocracy. The show follows her over the course of a year, as her position is increasingly threatened. Matthias Schoenaerts co-stars opposite Winslet, along with Guillaume Gallienne as the chancellor’s husband, Andrea Riseborough as the chancellor’s chief minister and Martha Plimpton as the U.S. secretary of state.
Hugh Grant appears in the series as the Leader of the Opposition, who’s imprisonment is the catalyst for public protests across the nation. Danny Webb, David Bamber, Henry Goodman, Stanley Townsend, Karl Markovics, Pippa Haywood and Rory Keenan are also part of the cast.
