Tom Cruise returns in seventh Mission: Impossible film
Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One is an upcoming action thriller and seventh installment of the Mission: Impossible franchise. Produced for Paramount Pictures, Christopher McQuarrie returns to write and direct the latest Mission: Impossible film, having previously worked on Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation and Mission: Impossible - Fallout. McQuarrie is a frequent collaborator with Tom Cruise, with the duo having worked together on films including Jack Reacher, Edge of Tomorrow and more. Dead Reckoning Part One is the first film in a two part franchise finale (also directed by McQuarrie).
Tom Cruise has starred in every Mission: Impossible films, beginning in 1996 with Mission: Impossible. Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg and Rebecca Ferguson all reprise their roles as Luther Stickell, Benji Dunn and Ilsa Faust respectively, with Vanessa Kirby also returning to the franchise as Alanna Mistopolis. Hayley Atwell (The Pillars of the Earth), Shea Whigham (Boardwalk Empire) and Esai Morales (Ozark) also join the cast.
The film has experienced many production delays, and the film was originally planned to be released on July 23, 2021. During production in Italy, twelve people tested position for COVID-19 on the film set. When filming recommended in the UK, Tom Cruise paid £500,000 out of his own pocket for an old cruise ship where the cast and crew could isolate themselves.
