Synopsis
The first Englishman arrives in Japan in 1600
When Pilot Major John Blackthorne ends up shipwrecked in Japan, he finds himself facing off against an equally ambitious and powerful rival, Lord Toranaga. As the first Englishman to arrive in Japan, he must navigate a completely new culture and foreign way of life.

Shogun is a historical drama television series on Disney+. The show is created by Rachel Kondo and Oscar nominated writer Justin Marks for FX. The limited series is based on the 1975 novel, Shogun written by James Clavell. There was previously another Shogun television adaptation released in 1980 starring Richard Chamberlain, Toshiro Mifune and Yoko Shimada.
Hiroyuki Sanada plays Lord Yoshii Toranaga, a character based on the founder and first shogun of the Tokugawa Shogunate of Japan, Tokugawa Ieyasu. Cosmo Jarvis co-stars as Pilot Major John Blackthorne. His character is based on the real-life English navigator, William Adams, who was the first Englishman to arrive in Japan in 1600. Anna Sawai plays Toda Mariko, based on the real-life Hosokawa Gracia, a member of the aristocratic Akechi family. Tadanobu Asano, Fumi Nikaido, Tokuma Nishioka, Takehiro Hira, Ako, Sinnosuke Abe, Yasunari Takeshima, Hiroto Kanai, Toshi Toda, Hiro Kanagawa, Junichi Tajiri, Nestor Carbonell, Yuki Kura, Tommy Bastow and Moeka Hoshi are the main actors in the ensemble cast of Shogun.
