The movie is directed by Australian Julius Avery, whose previous work includes Samaritan and Overlord. Gabriele Amorth's memoirs An Exorcist Tells His Story and An Exorcist: More Stories were adapted for the film.
The movie originally had Angel Gomez attached to direct and had been early in its production phase before a new director and screenwriter were brought in. Much of the original work has been kept in by the new screenwriting team, Michael Petroni and Evan Spiliotopoulos.
The movie features Academy Award winner Russell Crowe (Gladiator, A Beautiful Mind) in the lead role as the catholic priest. Beloved Italian actor Franco Nero (John Wick: Chapter 2) is cast as the Pope while Alex Essoe and Daniel Zovatto are also set to feature. Laurel Marsden, Cornell S. John, and Peter DeSouza-Feighoney make up the expanded cast.
