The Mean Girls Broadway musical gets an on-screen adaption for Paramount+
Mean Girls is a musical comedy film produced by Paramount Pictures, Broadway Video, and Little Strangers. The film is a screen adaptation of the hit Broadway musical, which was based on the iconic 2004 film of the same name. Tina Fey, who wrote and starred in the original film, returns to write the screenplay and reprise her role as maths teacher Ms Norbury. The music by Jeff Richmond and lyrics by Nell Benjamin created for the Broadway production are featured in the film. Saturday Night Live creator Lorne Michaels produces alongside Tina Fey.
Australian actress Angourie Rice (Mare of Easttown) portrays Cady Heron, a misfit trying to find her place in a new school. The role was originally played by Lindsey Lohan in the 2004 film, and by Erika Henningson on Broadway. Singer and actress Reneé Rapp takes on the role of iconic bully Regina George, first played by Rachel McAdams in the original film. Regina’s fellow 'Plastics', Gretchen Wieners and Karen Shetty, are portrayed by Bebe Wood and Avantika Vandanapu. Auliʻi Cravalho portrays Cady’s best friend, Janis, while Jaquel Spivey plays Damien. Tina Fey and Tim Meadows return to their roles from the 2004 film as Ms. Norbury and Principal Duvall. The cast is rounded out by Christopher Briney, Jenna Fischer, Busy Philipps, Mahi Alam, Connor Ratliff, and Jon Hamm.
