The returned foreign Syrian fighter June al-Baqee, 22 years of age, is under immense media attention sentenced in the Eastern High Court and stripped of her passport for a year – despite fighting on the side of the rebels in Syria and against ISIS. June is released, and now her entire Muslim family back home in the Nørrebro District of Copenhagen is waiting for her with Danish flags. But in vain. Because June never returns home. She has been taken hostage. By four Islamic terrorists, of whom several are presumed to be returned Syrian fighters, but who – in contrast to June – fought on the side of ISIS in Syria. Philip Nørgaard, who is currently on leave from the TTF (the police’s Terror Task Force), knows June personally from previous years, and on his own initiative, he starts looking into her disappearance, even though no one – including the PET – believe that a crime has been committed. The public, on the contrary, believe that she has fled back to Syria to resume fighting. Philip ends up tracking down June and her hostage-takers to the ferry to Sweden that in the cover of the night is on its way from Elsinore to Helsingborg to get June out of the country. On board the ferry, June manages to escape from the four hostage-takers and hide on the ship. Under intense pressure, the hostage-takers react by promptly hijacking the ferry and all passengers. And that’s where the hijacked ferry now rests, in the middle of the Øresund Strait, off Kronborg Castle. In the dark of the night, Philip manages to get on board on his own, while the police and soon the rest of Denmark realise that a tense Islamic act of terror is unfolding on the ferry – during which everybody’s lives, including Philip’s, are at stake – while the TTF is once again activated and must attempt to avert the hostake-taking from land. A ferry that will become the arena for a hostage-taking involving international politics and having links to Syria as well as Russia and deep into the high circles of government at Christiansborg Castle when it turns out that June on a hidden cell phone has brought back home highly compromising recordings from her time fighting in Syria. Recordings that show Russian war crimes being committed against Danish NATO soldiers.
