Author Rick Riordan teams up with Disney+ for the live action adaptation of Percy Jackson and the Olympians
Percy Jackson and the Olympians is a live-action fantasy adventure series created for Disney+. The series is inspired by the world famous 'Percy Jackson and the Olympians' books by Rick Riordan. The author serves as an executive producer for the series, and has co-written the pilot episode alongside Jonathan E. Steinberg. Jonathan and Rick also serve as co-showrunners of the show.
The first season is eight episodes long and follows the same storyline as the first novel. This series marks the second adaptation of the bestselling book. The last one involved two films: Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief and Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters, both of which failed to perform well at the box-office. However, the main differentiator for this show is that it involves heavy involvement from the original author. Filmmakers James Bobin, Anders Engstrom, and Jet Wilkinson have been roped in to direct the first eight episodes of the series.
Walker Scobell, (The Adam Project) is cast for the role of Percy Jackson. Actors Leah Sava Jeffries and Aryan Simhadri, play the role of Percy's bestfriends. While Virginia Kull, from Big Little Lies plays the role of Percy's mother, and Glynn Turner plays the role of Mr Brunner, a centaur disguised as Percy's Latin teacher. Jason Mantzoukas signs on to play the role of Mr D, the leader of camp half blood.
From the villains we've got Megan Mullally as Ms Dodds, Percy's rigid math teacher and one of the three furies that serves god Hades. Timm Sharp plays the role of Percy's cruel stepfather. Dior Goodjohn stars as Clarisse, the daughter of Ares, and Percy's bully, and Adam Copeland plays the role of Ares.
