Imagine that what is happening right in front of your eyes is not actually reality but only taking place in your mind. That's the case for the five young people participating in the documentary series 'Controlled by Voices' on DR3. Heidi is surrounded by shadows every day and sees and feels bird spiders crawling on her body. Ida sees a devil sitting on her shoulder, following her everywhere. Mikkel and Line Marie hear voices telling them that life is not worth living, and Andrea sees the 'dark man' who appears outside her window when darkness falls. Now they invite us into their minds so that we can get a sense of what it's like to try to live their lives while hearing voices and seeing visions. Through 3D animation and sound design, their otherwise invisible world becomes visible, allowing us to see and hear what otherwise only takes place in their heads, if only for a moment.
