The second season of Tokyo Vice resumes immediately following the climax of its first season, a finale that left audiences with a ton of unanswered questions. These include the fate of Sato, who faced a brutal stabbing, along with the fate of Samantha. Against a backdrop of escalating tension and threats from the Yakuza, Hiroto Katagiri and Jake Adelstein persist in their relentless pursuit of truth and justice.
Tokyo Vice season 2 is the second season of the crime drama TV series created by J.T. Rogers for Max. Jake Adelstein's 2009 book of the same name serves as inspiration for the series. Rogers is a successful playwright whose 2016 play Oslo received a film adaptation in 2021 starring Andrew Scott, Ruth Wilson and Jeff Wilbusch for HBO. Tokyo Vice follows the journey of American journalist Jake Adelstein in 1999 when he relocates to Tokyo. In order to secure a position at a prominent Japanese newspaper, he must successfully navigate a challenging written Japanese exam. Against the odds, he succeeds and becomes the first foreign-born journalist at the newspaper. Beginning his career at the entry level, he receives support from an experienced detective in the vice squad, propelling him into an investigation of the shadowy realm of the Japanese yakuza. Celebrated director Michael Mann previously directed the pilot of the series.
Mann and Rogers also serve as executive producers on Tokyo Vice alongside lead stars Ansel Elgort and Ken Watanabe and the real-life Jake Adelstein. Other exec producers include John Lesher, Alan Poul, Emily Gerson Saines, Kayo Washio, Brad Caleb Kane and Destin Daniel Cretton.
Ansel Elgort reprises his role of Jake Adelstein while Ken Watanabe also returns as Hiroto Katagiri. The cast includes Rachel Keller as Samantha Porter, Rinko Kikuchi as Emi Maruyama, Miki Maya as Shoko Nagata and Ayumi Ito as Misaki Taniguchi. Takayuki Suzuki is a new addition to the series, portraying charming architect Masahito Ohno.
