Lee Jung-jae returns for second season of massively popular and successful Korean Netflix series
Squid Game season 2 is an upcoming season of the survival drama TV series created by Hwang Dong-hyuk for Netflix. The series follows a mysterious tournament involving 456 individuals facing severe financial difficulties. These participants put their lives on the line as they engage in a succession of perilous children's games, all in pursuit of a staggering ₩45.6 billion prize.
Despite being written in 2009, Hwang faced challenges in finding a production company willing to finance the concept until around 2019 when Netflix became interested. Netflix's motivation stemmed from their efforts to broaden their catalog of international programming options. Squid Game ultimately achieved unparalleled success as it became the highest-viewed series on the platform at the time, garnering widespread acclaim and numerous accolades. The series garnered an impressive fourteen Primetime Emmy Award nominations, including a nomination in the prestigious Outstanding Drama Series category. This remarkable feat holds great significance, as it marked the first-ever nomination for a non-English language work in this category. A reality show based on the series titled Squid Game: The Challenge will be available to stream in November 2023.
Lee Jung-jae reprises his role as Seong Gi-hun for Squid Game season 2. Lee Byung-hun, Wi Ha-jun and Gong Yoo also return. New additions to the series include Yim Si-wan, Kang Ha-Neul, Park Sung-hoon, Yang Dong-geun, Park Gyu-Young, Jo Yu-Ri, Kang Ae-Sim, Won Ji-An, Lee David, Lee Jin-Uk, Roh Jae-Won and Choi Seung-Hyun.
