More than ten years after the appearance of "gates" linking different realms, individuals with extraordinary abilities make a living by conquering dungeons. Sung Jinwoo, a young man who is considered the least powerful among hunters, undertakes a mysterious mission when he's on the brink of death. This quest takes him on a remarkable journey of progress while concealing his real intentions from everyone else.
Solo Leveling season 1 is the first season of the anime TV series on Crunchyroll from A1 Pictures. The anime is an adaptation of the South Korean web novel of the same name written by Chugong from March 2018 to December 2021. Shunsuke Nakashige, known for his work on Sword Art Online and Sailor Moon Crystal, is the principal director. Noboru Kimura, who has written for Mai-HiME and Healer Girl, is the head writer. A-1 Pictures, the studio behind adaptations like NieR: Automata and Mashle: Magic and Muscles, is producing the series. The renowned composer Hiroyuki Sawano, known for his work on Attack on Titan and Kill la Kill, is responsible for the music. Crunchyroll handles the series' distribution outside of Asia.
Solo Leveling, a highly acclaimed web novel series, gained global recognition throughout its run. In 2016, illustrator Jang Sung-rak, also known as Dubu, took on the task of creating a webtoon adaptation. He dedicated himself to it until its last chapter was released in December 2021. Tragically, shortly after completing the series, he passed away from a cerebral hemorrhage.
The Japanese voice cast for Solo Leveling includes Taito Ban as Sung Jinwoo, Reina Ueda as Cha Hae-In, Hiroki Touchi as Baek Yoonho, Genta Nakamura as Yoo Jinho, Daisuke Hirakawa as Chōi Jong-In, Banjou Ginga as Go Gunhe and Makoto Furukawa as Woo Jinchui.
