Law & Order Toronto: Criminal Intent season 1 is the first season of Citytv's crime drama TV series from René Balcer for Citytv. The series is a spin-off of Balcer and Dick Wolf's Law & Order: Criminal Intent and marks the first-ever spin-off of the iconic franchise into a Canadian locale. It explores criminal activities "ripped from the headlines" and joins the ranks of the original Law & Order series, which originally aired for 20 seasons between 1990-2010 and was revived in 2021. Law & Order: Criminal Intent was previously set in New York City and ran for ten seasons from 2001-2011. Alongside the original series, six other Law & Order shows include Special Victims Unit, Criminal Intent, Trial by Jury, LA, True Crime and Organized Crime.
Emmy Award-winning writer Balcer has contributed to almost every Law & Order series including the original, SVU, CI, UK and LA. His talent extends beyond the Law & Order franchise as he has also written for the CBS' FBI before helming its successful spin-off, Most Wanted.
Producers on Law & Order Toronto: Criminal Intent include Tassie Cameron (co-creator of Rookie Blue) and Wanda Chaffey while directing duties on the ten-episode series were handled by Holly Dale, David Wellington, Peter Stebbings, Sudz Sutherland, Rachel Leiterman, Winnifred Jong, Sharon Lewis and David Straiton.
The cast of Law & Order Toronto: Criminal Intent includes Rectify's Aden Young as Det. Sgt. Henry Graff. FBI's Kathleen Munroe as Det. Sgt. Frankie Bateman, Mary Kills People's Karen Robinson as Insp. Vivienne Holness. Saving Hope's K. C. Collins as Deputy Crown Attorney Theo Forrester, Shadowhunters' Nicola Correia-Damude as Dr. Lucy Da Silva and Anne With An E's Araya Mengesha as Mark Yohannes.
