MTV presents its “Unplugged” show with Andreas Gabalier at the legendary Odeon Theater, performing the other side of his Folk Rock ‘n’ Roll in a great concert. MTV Unplugged. A premiere evening in the magnificent atmosphere of the Vienna Odeon Theater. Andreas Gabalier is not only the first Austrian artist on camera for MTV, but has no doubt also attracted more “Dirndl” skirts to the audience than ever before. The reason: the Folk Rock ‘n’ Roll artist presented the other, unplugged side of his music. His songs are reduced to the max. The band directed by its Producer Mathias Roska embedded Andreas’ songs in delicate arrangements. A 40-piece orchestra provided an appropriately Viennese, symphonic sound conducted by Maestro Christian Kolonovits. The orchestral arrangements were penned by Christian Kolonovits, Johnny Bertl and Achim Radloff. Classical music meets Folk Rock ’n’ Roll. Guest and duet appearances by the rap artists 257ers (“Hulapalu”), the singer-songwriters Gregor Meyle (“In diesem Moment”) and Max Giesinger (“Sie”), as well as Xavier Naidoo (“A Meinung haben”) wonderfully highlight the crossover potential of music. So the show opened in a very traditional way: with the “Blue Danube” waltz! Gabalier’s tunes revealed themselves as they really are: songs in the most beautiful singer-songwriter tradition. It was a true accolade for Folk Rock ‘n’ Roll. After Clapton, Nirvana... now “I sing a Liad für di”…The music emanating from Vienna’s 2nd district on that warm summer night didn’t sound in the least unusual. In fact it was truly an experience!
