Becoming Superhuman - Season 1 (2016)

Biomedical engineer Dr Jordan Nguyen aim to make 13 year old cerebral palsy sufferer Riley Saban’s dreams come true – he wants to drive a car. But Jordan and his team have their work cut out for them as the only part of his body that Riley can control is his eyes. They use electrode sensors that can measure Riley’s brainwaves. But as Riley is using his eye movements to control the car’s movement he needs a new way of ‘seeing’ the road ahead. Jordan and his team use a laser on the front of the vehicle which sends signals to electrodes placed on Riley’s arms to warn him of the obstacles ahead. Riley must also practise to control his eye movements and learn to steer using the electrode signals. Will the technology work well enough allow Riley to drive a car through an obstacle course?
