On a cold December night in 1963, 13-year-old Alison Carter vanishes from the Derbyshire hamlet of Scardale. The villagers are reluctantly forced to ask the outside world for help. In spite of Detective Inspector George Bennett’s efforts, her disappearance remains a mystery until the investigation is turned on its head leading to apparently incontrovertible evidence of Alison's violent death.
