Synopsis
Former tennis star turned coach trains husband for Grand Slam, faces emotional showdown on court
Tashi Donaldson, a former tennis star who is now a coach, is training her husband Art Donaldson with the goal of making him a Grand Slam champion. After Art experiences a major losing streak, Tashi enters him into a Challengers event which is considered one of the lowest levels of professional tennis. Art becomes cautious when he realizes that his opponent is Patrick, his childhood best friend and Tashi's ex. As they face each other on the court, both Art and Patrick carry emotional baggage from their past. However, it is off the court where the real questions and challenges arise and they must confront and address their personal issues.

Zendaya stars as tennis pro in Luca Guadagnino-directed romantic sports-comedy
Challengers is a romantic sports-comedy film directed by Luca Guadagnino for MGM. Guadagnino has previously directed such titles as 2017’s Call Me by Your Name (which was nominated for Best Picture at the Academy Awards), Suspiria in 2018 and 2022’s Bones and All. The film is produced by Guadagnino and lead star Zendaya along with Rachel O'Connor and Amy Pascal. Challengers features a screenplay penned by Justin Kuritzkes, a playwright and novelist, who ventured into his first major cinematic project with this film. Guadagnino reunites with his Call Me by Your Name and Suspiria cinematographer Sayombhu Mukdeeprom for Challengers. Famed composing duo Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross scored the film’s music. The pair is best known for their collaborations with director David Fincher on such films as The Social Network, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and Gone Girl.
Zendaya stars in the film as the former tennis pro turned coach, Tashi Donaldson. Mike Faist portrays her tennis-impaired husband, Art Donaldson, while Josh O’Connor plays the man in the middle of this elusive love triangle, Patrick Zweig.
