In ABC's powerful new drama, Commander in Chief, Academy Award-winner Geena Davis leads the cast as Mackenzie Allen, a former university chancellor taken on as the running mate of a conservative presidential candidate. A short time after winning the election, the president (Will Lyman) undergoes critical surgery, requiring Allen to step up to the plate. Difficulties arise in the form of the the Speaker of the House Nathan Templeton (Donald Sutherland) and various members of the cabinet who aren't entirely convinced that Allen is the right person for the job.
