Monkey Man is an upcoming action thriller movie produced by Thunder Road Films, Bron Studios, and Creative Wealth Media. The plot of the movie is based on the mythology of Hanuman, a famous deity in Hinduism. Depictions of the God see him with the body of a man and the head of a monkey. He is known for his unwavering loyalty and devotion, two themes that are present in the movie.
Monkey Man is directed by Dev Patel who makes his filmmaking debut. Known as an award-winning actor, Patel also serves as co-writer of Monkey Man alongside veteran screenwriter John Collee and Paul Angunawela. German composer, Hauschka handles the music for the movie, having worked with Dev Patel on the Oscar-nominated picture Lion. The action choreography is handled by 87Eleven, the company behind action sequences in the John Wick movies and Atomic Blonde. Jordan Peele produces through his Monkeypaw production company.
The cast of Monkey Man includes Dev Patel in the lead role as the unlikely hero emerging from jail. Sharlto Copley, Sobhita Dhulipala, and Sikander Kher make up the rest of the cast.
The main character referred to only as 'Kid' possesses incredible strength, skill and power. While not a traditional superhero, Kid is fuelled by rage and revenge giving him superhuman focus and fury. The movie is a gritty action thriller more akin to others in the genre like John Wick and Taken.
While Monkey Man was originally supposed to land on Netflix, the streaming site dropped the movie, leading to it being picked up by Jordan Peele and Universal. The movie will now stream on Prime Video and Peacock.
